About
Me

Hi there! I'm Yen Ling from Subang Jaya, Selangor. A 20 years-old Mass Communication degree student from IACT College. I enjoy listening to music, café hopping and petting my cat. 🐈

You can always spot me in campus with headphones on, where I'm probably listening to Flower by JISOO (feel free to talk to me about K-pop)!

My Story

Hi, it's Yen Ling again. I'm currently a first-year degree student in Mass Communication from IACT College. How did I end up here? Well, it's all thanks to the time young Yen Ling spent watching TV after school.

I'm lucky I had the opportunity to grow up without smartphones, so like many other 90s kids, TV became my primary source of entertainment. I still remember the TV schedule clearly — after reaching home, having lunch, and a shower, 6-years old Yen Ling would make sure she was on TV9 watching all the Malay-dubbed cartoons from afternoon to evening. That's it? Nope! I continued watching Sinetron on the same channel, and only after that, time for a break to do my homework and have dinner while watching the news on TV3 or 8TV. Oh & don't forget about the Chinese drama on NTV7 (THAT I CANNOT MISS) before bed. And that pretty much sums up a day in this little girl’s life.

With all the TV content I consumed, I grew up curious about how the media works. "How do they insert ads between the programs?" "How do they come up with perfect storylines for the dramas?" “How do they find different news to report every day?” Having unsolved questions every time I watched television, I was eager to seek the answers by watching behind the scenes of how TV content is being produced. Questions eventually turn to ambition – "I want to do something like that too in the future," although I'm still not sure what that "something" could possibly stand for then.

Like every typical movie storyline, there has to have a twist. My journey to this point hasn't been a straight line. When I was in high school, I started to doubt my ambition. After all, I'm shy, introverted, and have no traits suitable for the media, which caused me to take the Science stream during the last two years. However, I realised Science courses are not my forte and decided to give Business and Economics a shot during college.

Yep, I was still avoiding the media until this one day when I found a CD in an envelope. It's a blue and orange CD with 'Kidzania TV Studio' printed. Out of curiosity, I went and inserted the CD into my laptop. I saw what was playing, a video of a younger me as a news reporter, and memory started to flood into my mind; that was the moment that I finally realised that media is still, and will always be, my passion. & friends! That's how – I'm here today ✌️

Being interested and always curious about every aspect of mass communication, I'm still a work in progress — I may not know what particular area in media I'm venturing into; still, I'm positive that I will find my purpose in this industry one day.
